Mervyn Singer is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at University College London UK, a UK National Institute of Health Research Senior Investigator and Editor-in-Chief of Intensive Care Medicine Experimental. He was the co-chair of the Sepsis-3 definitions task force. His research interests range from basic mechanisms through translational investigations to clinical trials mainly relating to sepsis, tissue oxygenation, shock, haemodynamics and monitoring. He previously developed an oesophageal Doppler haemodynamic monitoring device and currently has one novel drug (for ischaemia-reperfusion injury) and three monitoring devices (for tissue perfusion, tissue ‘happiness’ and tissue antibiotic monitoring) under development.
