He has completed a doctor of medicine in aspects of the Medical Emergency Team (MET) and has completed a PhD on the MET that will assess the characteristics and outcomes of patients who are reviewed by the MET, and details of resource utilization of the MET in ICU-equipped hospitals throughout Australia.
Daryl has an interest in improving the recognition of, and response to deteriorating patients. Recently, he has revealed that sepsis is an important precipitant for MET calls at Austin Health. In-hospital sepsis is associated with a high risk of death. Importantly, in-hospital sepsis may be preventable, and several relatively simple steps may lead to improved sepsis-related outcomes
